Classes at Yoga Yeronga

Everyone is welcome whether new to Yoga, or to Ashtanga Yoga, or with prior experience. All you need is an ability to move from standing to sitting and a genuine interest to learn about Yoga through the practice and application of Ashtanga Yoga. Suitable for all ages and abilities classes are influenced by the early teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Mysore, India and by Maxine’s teachers Graeme Northfield and Iain Clark.

In a gradual and progressive method (vinyasa krama),
you'll be taught:

● a suitable series of specific postures (yoga-asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and work to quieten the mind through the practice of concentration (dharana)

● how to engage internal muscular locks (bandhas) and develop a steady gaze (drishti)

● how to work with a system of breath-connected movements (vinyasa)

● how to develop a mindful practice attitude

Maxine will guide you to practise safely and gain a deeper understanding of how to best work in each asana with good alignment. Cultivating a balance of strength and flexibility, inner and outer stillness, and an overall better understanding of yoga as an integrated practice of body, mind and spirit. With regular practice, you’ll develop greater awareness of yourself and others and a better understanding of the nature of your own mind.

Classes run all year round from late January to mid-December, unless otherwise notified.
Bookings are essential for all classes.
Payment is in cash, on arrival.
Please bring your own mat and towel.

Getting started at Yoga Yeronga

Option 1

Private session as a special price start up package: $150

● A one-hour private class AND two Mysore style consolidation classes (Wednesdays at 5.30pm). This two-part program provides an opportunity to meet and introduce important foundations of an Ashtanga Yoga practice, look closely at your technique and work with your individual requirements, including any physical issues. The private is followed by attendance at two classes.
● The private class will be held at a mutually suitable time. Allowing 1½ hours to meet and discuss requirements. This session includes one hour of private instruction and practice.

Option 2

a program of 4 led classes over 4 weeks: $120

● Four-week programs of ‘led’ classes are offered at different times over the year and require 6 people to go ahead.

Led Classes

● Led classes are announced prior to starting

Suitable if you are new to Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga. The 4 week program is designed with instructions and guidance tailored for the individual in a manner which respects Yoga as a holistic practice.

Mysore Style

Consolidation & ongoing development
4 classes—$120
Wednesdays 5.30–7.30 pm

After completing either Option 1 or 2, ongoing classes are clearly structured for individual students to progress through appropriate levels so that each student moves through a series of introduction, consolidation and ongoing development in a Mysore style class. That is each person works with teacher direction at their own pace, practising in a group setting. Based on vinyasa krama each student is taught to progress mindfully, increasing awareness and understanding of their body, inner selves and interaction with others. Some classes will be led and others self-practised with instruction and guidance for each individual.

Private Classes

Suitable for anyone who would like an in-depth private session.
Time and length arranged by negotiation.

$90 for the first hour and $50 for each hour after (e.g. $140 for two hours)
